For the past 10 years, I've searched for realistic, sustainable solutions to address students' unfinished learning in math.

As a teacher, I had an understanding of the grade-level standards I was supposed to teach and the belief that new math learning must build from prior understanding.

But the harsh reality was that most of my students were several years behind, and I only had one school year catch them up.

At the time, I saw just two options — move forward with grade-level work despite students’ gaps OR press pause to build prerequisite knowledge.

NEITHER OPTION MET MY STUDENTS' NEEDS.

Since then, I've partnered with teachers, coaches, and leaders across our country in search of solutions to this common, complex, and challenging problem.
